Therapy for Creatives, Thought Leaders, and Entrepreneurs
You're on a mission to change the world, but many things can get in the way of accomplishing that mission.
Do you identify with any of these experiences?
- Spend your day staring at that blinking cursor... praying for your muse or getting distracted by social media
- Hustling from small gig to small gig, simply to make ends meet
- Trying to develop that minimal viable product and to set up a website on a shoestring budget, networking like crazy, struggling to find backers, perhaps experiencing low motivation, low energy, or are in a constant state of anxiety or overwhelm since you realized that the learning curve is steep
- In a high pressure job, expected to perform at a high level, but changes in your industry make it increasingly difficult to stay up-to-date or to build a sustainable life.
Let's collaborate to identify your hangups and explore options for moving beyond your current state of inertia (whether stuck or frantic).
If you've lost sight of where you're going, what you're doing, and why you're doing it, therapy can provide either a calm anchoring place or a high vantage point to reconnect with yourself, your objectives, and your reasons so that you can accomplish your goals rather than experiencing analysis paralysis or wasting energy on worry or nonessential tasks.
Often, people encounter unwanted internal resistance: the more important the goal, the more likely you'll experience it. Think: writer's block or the appropriate equivalent. You want to write that chapter or post, record that demo or podcast, launch that product, or set up that website, but whenever you sit down to work on something critical, you can't get any work done. If this persists, you might become discouraged. For some, this may lead to depression, symptoms of which sometimes include a lack of motivation or energy, trouble concentrating, and trouble making decisions, all of which can be frustrating and, at times, debilitating.
Sometimes past experiences impact present functioning. If appropriate, we'll explore how your past may be holding you back, coping strategies may be ineffective or insufficient, or ways that you've been depleting your energy reserves for too long without rebuilding them. Addressing the past can free you to move forward. Turning to healthy coping strategies and replenishing energy reserves through sustainable rhythms of work, rest, and recovery will increase your chances of bouncing back after facing unexpected obstacles and prevent derailments that might slow your progress or prevent you from accomplishing your goals altogether.
Finally, while work is important to you, you are not solely your work. Have other aspects of being human fallen by the wayside? Do you have that niggling feeling that you're desperately pounding out an existence while missing the point of living? If so, we'll address that so that it is no longer an invisible drain on your energy. You will then be able to redirect that energy as you choose.
