Therapy for Local Nonprofit Workers and Humanitarians
You experience much need as you go about your day: what people need from you and what you need (but may only realize that you're not getting until you're burnt out).
There's a lot to do. The world isn't as it was meant to be. You're burning the candle at both ends and still, there seems to be never enough of you to go around. Not for your organization. Not for your family. Not for yourself. So while your organization may be running smoothly (or not), you or your family may be falling apart at the seams.
You've read all the productivity books. You time block. You leave work at work (or don't). Maybe you're even successful at arriving at home as planned and not "working" at home, but you still feel anxious about the work that you're not getting done, the people that you think you're letting down, and how you're feeling about your human limitations.
You chose your profession because, at one time, you thought that it was meaningful work. Together, we'll remember what got you into this work in the first place. We'll consider whether you still find this work meaningful. Many people experiencing burnout or compassion fatigue may find it difficult to reconnect with those original feelings.
What goals might you have for therapy?
- Increase resilience
- Develop strong coping strategies
- Boundary-setting
- Improve your ability to assertively communicate
- Clarify current values and preferences
- Explore new facets of yourself
- Reallocate time, energy, and effort to life-giving, non-work activities
- Rediscover your passion for your work
- Examine alternative life directions
It's not my job to keep you in this work (no matter how worthy it may be) or to push you into other work. That's your decision. But I'll help you to listen closely to what is going on inside of you and support you as you choose and walk your own path toward healing, wholeness, meaning, and sustainability.
